What is whole step down (D standard)?
Every string drops a whole step: D–G–C–F–A–D. All your chord shapes work unchanged — everything just sounds two frets lower. It's a favorite for heavier tones (early metal lives here), for easing tension on a stiff guitar, and for matching singers who want songs a step lower.
How to tune a whole step down
Tap start and go string by string from thickest to thinnest — each one needs to come down, so the tuner will read "too high" and point you at the right peg to loosen. A whole step is a decent turn of the peg; go slow and let the note settle before you judge the needle. Six checkmarks and you're in D standard.
