What is DADGAD?
DADGAD is the open, drony tuning behind much of Celtic guitar, "Kashmir," and modern fingerstyle. From standard, three strings move: the low E drops to D, the B drops to A, and the high E drops to D — giving D–A–D–G–A–D. Strummed open it rings as a suspended chord that's neither major nor minor, which is exactly why players love it.
How to tune to DADGAD
Tap start. Strings 6, 2, and 1 come down a whole step (the tuner will say "too high — loosen"); strings 5, 4, and 3 stay put — pluck them anyway to confirm. Note that in DADGAD the G and A strings are only a whole step apart, so if the tuner seems unsure which of the two you're playing, tap the right one below the needle.
